Check out our comprehensive online course ‘Mastering Dog Training and Behaviour’

This will run for 10 weeks starting on April 3rd 3-5pm and will be conducted online with Robin Bates -dog behaviourist who is renowned for teaching only positive reinforcement methods. If you can’t make it every week don’t worry the sessions will be recorded and you can catch up in your own time. Material will also be shared every week.

This comprehensive online course is designed to equip potential dog trainers with the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to understand canine behaviour, implement effective training methods, and foster positive relationships between dogs and their owners.

I completed the 10 week Principles of Dog Training & Behaviour course in early summer 2021. For my role as a kennel assistant in a rescue centre it has given me a better understanding of how and why certain things happen with dogs, but more importantly how to deal with issues because I gained a clearer understanding of the more scientific aspect behind some behaviours. There is a good balance of theory and practical work and the assignments made me explore and study in my own time. Would highly recommend the course to anyone with an interest in dogs, particularly anyone who wishes to work with them. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises, participants will gain insight into dog psychology, behaviour modification strategies, and the principles of positive reinforcement training.

Who is your host for these online courses?

If you don’t know me already my name is Robin Bates, I am a dog behaviourist and I recently celebrated 20 years in the dog industry and have been involved in every type of job around dog welfare from a dog walker, to kennel owner to now a trainer and owner of my canine centre of excellence in Ballyclare, Northern Ireland. Until January 2023, I had 4 dogs and sadly 3 crossed the rainbow bridge so I just have Cooper who is an adolescent rescue Collie and a bundle of mischief!

In all the training I provide, I use what is known as ‘Positive Reinforcement’ methods. This means that we encourage you to reward your dog for positive behaviour instead of punishing it for bad. We don't believe in harsh methods but want fun, easy training methods for the entire family.

Do you have a dog parent friend who you think could benefit from this experience too? Share this page with them!

I also run face-to-face puppy socialisation and adult dog training classes that take place in venues across Northern Ireland and am a Mantrailing Instructor for the Ballyclare and Newtownabbey areas.

I am committed to animal welfare and I want to make sure what we are offering is right for your dog and its development needs at the time.
